A literate and articulate songwriter. Both heartfelt and humorous where necessary. Sometimes rough around the edges, but always melodically considered.
Ben: "Dylan showed everybody what was possible lyrically, Billy Bragg showed that you don't have to be soul singer to be soulful. Anti-folk heroes like Paul Baribeau and Kimya Dawson said find out what you really mean and sing it. The Pixies said that it's 80% nonsense. I'm dancing around somewhere in-between all those ideas."
Recent adventures over the past several years have included expeditions into stand-up comedy, raising children and academia.
As a pivotal member of other musical projects, Ben has played at many UK festivals, including Glastonbury. He has also taught songwriting at Manchester Metropolitan University for the last 5 years.
During this time, Ben's catalogue of both fragments and finished songs have been building. Some of these new songs will be recorded in July and August of this year and are due for self-release soon after.
